Overview
The history of the CEF(Colonial Earth Forces) begins at the beginning of Earth’s
galactic colonization period; around the year 2190.  The CEF wasn’t officially
created until the year 2200.  When the first colonist left Earth to colonize other
worlds; they left with the understanding that they would still answer to Earth
Authority.  As many would have expected,  this rule of whom had authority didn’t
last long.  Many of the colonies wanted independence from earth rule especially
since Earth itself was still not united in its decisions.  Many nations still remained
hostile to one another and mixed commands were constantly given to
representatives of the far seperated colonies.  Rebellions begun to grow and
Earth decided to create a fleet to try and protect it's investments.  A lesson in
history forgotten with the escalation of war machines only led to more rebellion
and soon the colonies that had been created were beginning to turn on each
other and Earth.

The year 2240 brought about great change and peace.  New leadership on
Earth and in several colony worlds begun talks and soon the Colonial Earth
systems was created.  The fleets once controlled by the Earth Forces became
the Colonial Earth Forces designated to explore and protect the colonies.  One
of the big key events that also happened that year was the discovery of the
Artrans in their primitive ships.  The Artrans were chasing after giant living
creatures in space, also referred to as Eels.  The Artrans had discovered the
Eels near their home world and exploration ships were built to discover where
these life forms had come from.  Many explores sent out never returned; but
after one mission successfully followed a pack of the Eels to another world a
great discovery was found.  The Artrans found temples and ruins of their ancient
kin in the ruins of this new world.   This was the beginning of the Artrans early
exploration and colonization period.

For fifteen years the Colonial Earth Systems and the Artran council, which was
mostly made up of priests, explored and shared technology equally.  When two
of the lead priests on the Artran council died unexpectedly, new and younger
priest were moved into their position.  The new priest believed that the humans
were responsible for the elders death and that human culture was becoming too
prevalent in their society.  They wanted their society to remain pure and
untainted.  This philosophy took hold and over the next five years the Artran
council begun shutting its borders to the Colonial Earth systems.

In the year 2260 the Artrans launched an attack on a human controlled outpost;
which also was found to be a ruin site of another Artran world.  The Artrans
declared war on the Colonial Earth Systems.    For ten years the war raged
between the two empires.  The technology level of both empires was about the
same, the only thing the Artrans had advantage with was the Eels.   The Eels
were discovered to be an ancient creation of the Artrans and once they
discovered how to communicate with them they became the ultimate weapon
against the Colonial Earth Force ships.  The Eels had a naturally armored
exterior that protected them from projectile weapons; and they were also highly
maneuverable.  They could dodge missles and projectiles with ease, Once they
got close enough to a ship they would strike it with their heads or tails and rip
whole sections of a ship apart.  Particle shields proved impractical against the
Eels.  Once they destroyed a ship they would wrap around it and drain the
energy from the fusion core.

System after system fell to the Artran fleets.  Ships and crews were not being
built fast enough to keep up with the demand and soon the Colonial Earth
Forces was forced to turn to another alli that they had treated as criminals.  A
nomadic race of aliens referred to as Rackturn Nomads.  The Nomads where
humanoid lizard aliens varying in color from grey, green and brown;  they
traveled in large ships roaming the galaxy without any purpose or guidance.  It
took many years before a translation matrix was invented to understand their
language; but by that time thousands of the Nomads had been imprisoned by
the Colonial Earth Forces and forced  to work on their mining worlds; it’s during
this time frame that the hero of the novel is born.  Colbosh is born an experiment
of the humans, which leaves him an outcast from his own kind.  When the
nomads are given the opportunity to earn their freedom by helping out in the war
effort, Colbosh takes it.

Thousands of the Nomads enlist and thousands of them die.  The Nomads help
turn the tide of battle along with the aid of some new tactics employed by the
Colonial Earth Forces.  The CEF discovered that the Eels developed a mental
bond with certain Artrans and they would only obey those.

Once this was known the Colonial Earth Forces sacrificed many strike forces in
order to kill the known controllers.  With the death of several controllers the tide
of battle shifted; after a decade long war both sides had suffered significantly
and peace was called for.  In the year 2270 peace was declared between the
Colonial Earth Forces and the Artran council.  The surviving Nomads earned
their freedom and were given a world of their own.  Some of the Nomads like
Colbosh remained active with the CEF as mercenaries.
